Roehl offers industry’s first FIVE-STAR PAY™ plan
From world-class restaurants and luxury hotels to safety ratings for new cars, five stars has become the standard of excellence and leadership. Now Roehl offers drivers the industry’s first qualified FIVE-STAR PAY™ Plan.
The FIVE-STAR PAY designation identifies Roehl driver pay among the best in the industry with a distinctive combination of features that boost drivers' incomes. In addition to offering the five components of a superior driver pay plan, the rating reflects the company's long history of mileage-pay leadership as verified by independent surveys, as well as a tradition of innovative compensation features.
A combination of features puts Roehl pay at the top
Roehl pay includes five key components, which work together to give the company's drivers substantially higher incomes. In fact, the company's driver compensation has been ranked among the top 10 in the nation by the National Transportation Institute for over eight consecutive years.

Superior rate and mileage combination:
At the core of any top OTR driver pay plan is a strong mileage rate and the opportunity to capitalize on that rate through consistent high miles. "What the FIVE-STAR designation doesn't necessarily tell you that we are also very proud of is that we provide that high mileage in a manner that also allows the driver to get home more often," explained Greg Koepel, Roehl's Vice President of Workforce Development. "It's one thing to offer high miles by telling the driver to hit the road and don't come back for three weeks, but we don't operate that way. We provide the tools, freight and support so our drivers are more productive and they get home to their families."

Practical route miles pay:
One of the first major carriers to switch to practical route miles pay, Roehl has made a radical departure from a standard industry practice that almost universally shorts drivers. The difference between short route miles used by most companies to calculate driver pay and practical route miles represents a substantial pay increase for Roehl drivers. "It's not just the money, it's the principle," Koepel said. "Roehl's system is fairer because it pays drivers for more of the miles they actually drive."

Realistic bonuses:
Performance and safety bonuses can add thousands of dollars to a driver's income but only if the requirements to earn them are reasonable. "Dangling the promise of a bonus that hardly anyone will ever get doesn't count as part of great pay plan," Koepel said. Driven by the company's award-winning safety program, the majority of Roehl drivers receive quarterly safety bonuses as well as annual performance bonues.

Per diem pay option:
Roehl's per diem pay option is an extra twist to its pay program that can increase net pay for most drivers. The program takes advantage of IRS regulations to reduce income taxes, giving the driver a bigger paycheck.

Profit sharing and benefits package:
A top wage program not only pays drivers a good income, it protects them financially with leading benefits, including medical and disability coverage. "Roehl's plan does all that plus adds to drivers' net worth with profit sharing, up to $2,000 per driver in 2005," Koepel said.
Committed to Driver Success
"We are proud to offer our drivers FIVE-STAR PAY. Combined with our industry leading home time options and operational support, it means Roehl delivers what drivers truly deserve - the support that makes their jobs easier and more rewarding, a high income and time with family and friends.
