Training Inexperienced People to Become Professional Drivers Demonstrates Industry Leadership
Ask any executive of the American Trucking Association (ATA) or any other transportation company executive what the number one issue is facing the transportation industry is, the overwhelming response will be "the driver shortage"
Roehl trains inexperienced student drivers so effectively that we repeatedly receive top honors in the ATA Safety Award Contest:
- 2004: Second Place in the large truckload category
- 2005: Third place in the large truckload category
- 2005: Second place in the small truckload category - our flatbed division
In addition to the ATA Safety Award Contest Roehl has also been honored with Great West Casualty Company's Platinum Award in 2005, 2004 and 2003; as well as many customer accolades.
The Nations Top On-the-Job Training Program
Earning your CDL was just the first step to becoming a professional driver. Now how well the company you join trains you over the next few weeks will have an impact on your entire career. Drivers who have been through Roehl’s Driver Safety and Job Skills Training Program are respected throughout the industry as among the best-trained truck drivers on the road… and shipper satisfaction surveys, performance data and safety statistics back up that reputation.
The Principles of Success
Designed around easy-to-learn principles with lots of hands-on skill development, the Roehl program will teach you DOT motor carrier rules, trip planning, freight handling and company policies, all under the umbrella of our industry-leading protective driving safety program—The Roehl Way.™
Roehl’s home time commitment applies to student drivers too. So rather than keep you out 20 or more days at a time, you’ll get home after just 10–13 days on the road. The Roehl Way training is divided into three evolutions of skill development with home time between them.
Roehl Driver Orientation
Getting your driving career started fast.
From operations to driving, safety and customer service, Roehl does things
a little differently. We perform at a higher standard. And in the process,
our drivers have earned a reputation as the best in the business. Roehl's
three-day orientation will introduce you to our company, systems, procedures
and career opportunities.
What to bring to driver orientation
Evolution I
During this evolution, the focus is on honing your driving skills and learning The Roehl Way of Protective Driving, our unique driving method that focuses on holding safety as a value and having the integrity to drive in a way that protects others. This evolution typically lasts 10–13 days, depending on your progress. You are paid $60/day.
Home Time
After Evolution I, we’ll get you home for a couple of days to refresh, relax and re-energize.
Evolution II
During this evolution, the focus is on refining your driving skills, learning how to handle freight, trip planning, understanding our system and how to be a successful professional over-the-road driver. You’ll work with a second driver trainer during this 10–13 day evolution so you’ll get even more exposure to professional insights and instruction. You are paid $65/day.
Home Time
Upon completion of Evolution II, we’ll verify your skills. After verification, we will issue you your first tractor and then route you through the house for a couple of days of home time.
Evolution III
Now you’re on full mileage pay. You’re on your own in your own truck—but you’re not alone. At the end of the phone and your satellite system is a specially trained fleet coach who will work closely with you for the next 4–6 weeks to help you continue to develop your skills. During this time, you’ll also complete skid pad collision avoidance training. Upon completion of Evolution III, you’ll be assigned a fleet manager and be well on your way to becoming one of the industry’s elite professionals—a Roehl driver.
