Independent Contractors with Roehl Increase Profits and Lower Costs
Qualifications and Tractor Requirements for Owner Operators
Since the beginning, Roehl has maintained a commitment to service and safety. In fact, safety is our cornerstone value. Two of the ways we honor our commitment are by partnering with highly qualified independent Contrators who own top-notch equipment.
Owner Operator Driver Qualifications
All drivers of equipment leased to Roehl, whether the owner of the equipment or hired by the owner of the equipment, must:
- Be 23 years old with 100,000 miles of safe and verifiable tractor trailer experience within the last three years.
- Be clean and well-groomed in personal appearance. The Driver is a front-line representative to our customer.
- Possess a Class A CDL in your state of residence.
- Pass a CDL road test at Independent Contractor Orientation.
Motor Vehicle Record
I/C Drivers must have:
- No more than 3 moving violations in the last 36 months and no more than 2 moving violations in the last 24 months.
- No speeding tickets of 20 mph or over in the last 36 months.
- No DUI or Reckless driving in the last 5 years and none ever in a commercial vehicle.
- All license suspensions will be reviewed.
Criminal History
Owner Operator Drivers must have:
- No convictions for possession, sale, or transfer of a controlled substance.
- No pending criminal charges.
- All felonies and misdemeanors will be reviewed.
Physical requirements
I/C - O/O Drivers must:
- Pass a DOT physical from a Roehl approved physician and drug screen.
- Able to meet Roehl's job description.
Independent Contractor Tractor Requirments
Vehicle Condition, Age, Safety Equipment and wheel base
- Tractor age: 12 years or newer
- Tractor must pass Roehl's DOT inspection at lease-on.
- All safety equipment as mandated by the DOT is required. Safety equipment will be inspected at the time of lease and quarterly thereafter.
- Wheel base maximums of 265 inches or less are preferred.
- Blind spot mirrors are required on both right and left sides of tractor.
Vehicle Weight
Tractor shall weigh less than:
- Van 19,500 lbs. with driver and 100 gallons of fuel.
- Flatbed 20,500 lbs. with driver and 100 gallons of fuel, plus load securement equipment.
- Curtainside 19,000 lbs. with driver and 100 gallons of fuel.
Fifth Wheel
- Fifth wheel maximum height of 48 inches.
- Roehl requires an approved fifth wheel. Call your Roehl recruiter for details.
Exhaust Stack
- Minimum exhaust stack height of 13'4'' for van and curtainside.
- Mufflers are required.
Flatbed Equipment
- DOT approved headache rack required.
- Lumber tarps (8' drop).
- Steel tarps.
- 6 coil chains (3/8'').
- 6 chains (5/16'').
- 13 chain binders.
- 18 nylon straps (4'').
- 8 coil racks, coil pads and steel edge protectors.
Independent Contractor drivers provide flatbed equipment, or can lease it from Roehl.
