Voluntary Insurance Benefits

Unlike our group health plans, these plans are totally owned and controlled by you. You pay your premiums through convenient payroll deductions, so there’s no more worrying about writing checks or mailing payments each month. And, because you own your policies, your coverage is portable, which means you can take your policy with you if you leave the company or retire.

Voluntary Accident Insurance from Unum Provident

“An accident won’t happen to me.” The reality is, accidents do happen and most occur close to home—not at work. Your child’s adventures with tree climbing or skateboarding might land them in the hospital emergency room. You may injure your back cleaning out the gutters and find you need surgery and physical therapy. Ask yourself, are you prepared for the extra expenses that result from a sudden accident?

We offer affordable accident insurance, which can help your family cover these out-of-pocket expenses. The plan covers a wide range of injuries and accident-related expenses such as hospitalization, physical therapy, hospital intensive care, transportation and lodging, plus coverage for accidental death and catastrophic accidents that involve the loss of use of sight, hearing, speech, arms or legs. The policy pays a specified dollar amount for each accident on a covered person and will continue to pay benefits as long as you own your policy. You can purchase coverage on yourself, your spouse and dependent children.

Voluntary Permanent Whole Life Insurance from Unum Provident

How would your family get by if something happened to you suddenly and they could no longer rely on your paycheck? With interest-sensitive whole life insurance, you can help give your family the added financial protection they may need in the event that something unexpected happens.

Interest-sensitive whole life insurance is voluntary, which means you choose whether or not to participate and buy only the amount of coverage that is right for your needs. You can purchase coverage on yourself, your spouse, dependent children and grandchildren. The rates for these policies are determined by your age at the time the policy is purchased. These rates are designed not to increase as you age, thereby keeping the policy affordable as you get older. Interest-sensitive whole life insurance is designed to provide death benefits to your beneficiaries if you pass away, but it also can build cash value that you can utilize while you are still alive. At an affordable premium, you can have the added financial protection you and your family may need during times of uncertainty. The interest rate your policy is credited with will never be less than the guaranteed minimum rate of 4.5%. Under current law, taxes are deferred on these interest earnings. After sufficient cash value has accumulated, you may borrow from your policy. The policy’s cash value may also be used to provide you with an amount of paid up insurance. This means that you can use the accumulated cash value to buy a smaller, “paid up” policy, on which no further premiums are due.

Voluntary Supplemental Term Life Insurance from The Hartford

You may elect supplemental life insurance in increments of $10,000 to a maximum of $500,000. If you elect an amount that exceeds the guaranteed issue amount of $150,000, you will need to provide evidence of good health that is satisfactory to the life insurance company before the excess can become effective.

In addition, you may elect supplemental life for your spouse in increments of $5,000 to a maximum of $250,000 but may not exceed 50% of the coverage amount you elected for yourself. If you elect an amount for your spouse that exceeds the guaranteed issue amount of $20,000, your spouse will need to provide evidence of good health. You may elect supplemental life for your dependent child(ren) between the ages of 6 months and 19 years (25 years if a full-time student) in the amount of $10,000.
