Practical Mile Pay
Practical route miles pay simply put pays you closer to the actual miles you actually drive.
The fact is, there is usually a discrepancy between the miles you actually drive from pickup to delivery and the miles you're paid for. Most of that difference is because the standard industry practice is to pay drivers based on "short route" or "HHG" miles. That means when you're directed to take the interstate loop around a city rather than the shorter but slower route through it; or you end up driving a few miles out of the way because the more direct roads don't allow a 53' trailer, you're driving miles and using up logbook time you're not getting paid for.
Roehl is one of the first major carriers to pay drivers practical route miles. so you get paid for more of the miles you actually drive. The difference can add thousands of dollars to your annual income.
That simple change was equal to, on average, a five percent pay raise in 2006 for Roehl truck drivers.
